The Goodwheel Foundation de Mexico, A.C. is a forward thinking non-profit charitable organization, established in 2014 to advocate the rights of people with disabilities so they can achieve equal opportunities, rights and a better quality of life. Thru awareness to the issues and challenges that people with disabilities face daily.

Since 1972, G-10 economies have implemented and embraced laws that provide people with disabilities a legal platform to become equal members in society and economy. 145 countries are signatory to the U.N. Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Mexico of course is one of them. Slowly but surely regulations are implementing regulations regarding basic designs that allow equal access but in most cases do not follow uniform standards for accessible design and sloppy building execution render many of these “improvements” un-useable.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990, by President George H.W. Bush. The ADA is one of America’s most comprehensive pieces of civil rights legislation that prohibits discrimination and guarantees that people with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else to participate in the mainstream of American life — to enjoy employment opportunities, to purchase goods and services, and to participate in State and local government programs and services. Modeled after the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin – and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 — the ADA is an “equal opportunity” law for people with disabilities.

The Goodwheel Foundation de Mexico, A.C. is a private effort that places a bright spotlight on the issue of the needs of people with disabilities thru the support of the business and tourism community in Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, Cancun and Loreto. Thru the efforts of The Goodwheel Foundation Resort Ability Certification ensures that people with a disability considering travel to Mexico can know before they travel what is and isn’t available to them during their stay.

For decades, Mexico’s tourism industry has been it’s second most important source of revenue, providing employment to millions of people directly and indirectly. Philanthropy in Tourism is the goal that the Goodwheel iniciative hopes to achieve. The wonderful resorts and towns that have played host to so many visitors over the years are aging, most flourished long before the rights of people with disabilities were acknowledged and are not “up

to code” thus making them as beautiful and inviting, as they are, yet sadly un-accessible to one of the fastest growing market segments.
